Congressman Roy A. Taylor, served as representative of North Carolina’s twelfth district 1959-62, and the eleventh district 1963-76. During his time in congress, Taylor also served as the Chair of the Subcommittee of National Parks and Recreation. Taylor spent his political career as an advocate towards conservancy throughout the nation as well as in Appalachia. Therefore, this paper will examine Taylors bills, speeches, and personal records to give a historical account of Taylor’s effort towards conservancy in the United States, as well as the programs Taylor advocated for that are still operating today.
